Advanced wheel measuring system for greater profitability of the railway sector
The railway industry is experiencing a new boost, thanks to the implementation of high-speed trains and the possibilities offered by using clean energy sources. As a result of this, the sector increasingly requires high-tech monitoring systems to carry out predictive maintenance and quality control on their equipment more frequently, faster and cheaper. The final aim of the WheelWatcher project is to introduce a new wheel wear status monitoring and control system in Europe and worldwide, providing railway transport operators with accurate and real-time information to drive preventive maintenance actions.
The aim of the project is to introduce a new wheel wear status monitoring and control system in main tracks of Europe and worldwide, providing rail transport operators with accurate and real-time information to drive preventive maintenance actions.
To develop and validate an outdoor on-track wheel profile measuring system based on:
" Computer vision algorithms capable of measuring high-speed trains with an accuracy and precision of around 0,1mm.
" A tool-kit software package for calibration, self-diagnosis and data exploitation.
" Environmental independence performances.
