Active dampers commanded by a control strategy allow structural damping to be increased without modifying the machine, thus increasing the vibration free area. This work considers an electromagnetic actuator, fully designed at IK4-IDEKO, for the elimination of chatter in machining operations. In addition to its design, different validation tests (temperature, linearity, etc.) can be observed that have been carried out on this actuator and the improvement results that have been obtained on installing it in a machining centre.
