The article includes the summary of the topics addressed at the What and How of machining in 2020 seminar, which was held at the facilities of the IDEKO Technology Centre. IK4-IDEKO took a leading role at this seminar that was organised by IMHE, where it participated in several events during the day, as well as in the 3 live practical demonstrations carried out:
- Demonstration of sand mould machining with robot
- Demonstration of turning with cryogenic assistance
- Demonstration of machining by ultrasounds
Jon Kepa Gerrikagoitia, IK4-IDEKO’s ICT and Automation research group manager,
provided an introduction to Industry 4.0 and smart connected factories, in
which practical cases of the application of this technology in industry were
shown. Linked to this, automation based on robotics was covered, with a
demonstration of different degrees of automation carried out in production
plants.
Within
the area of zero defects, Ibon Serrano spoke about the alignment of workpieces
in machines by photogrammetry in order to reduce setup time for medium large
workpieces on milling machines and replacement of marking out operations.
Jose Ángel Marañón was responsible for closing the seminar with a presentation
on future technology trends in the field of advanced manufacturing, the future
drivers of production, the main points for the competitiveness of customers,
changes in manufacturing capacity as well as emerging technologies in the field
of manufacture.
