In the nuclear sector it is very important to ensure that the existing high quality and reliability requirements are met. For this reason, during recent years the demand for inspection and maintenance of these types of components has increased. This study analyses the behaviour of the ultrasonic beam in the anisotropic grains located in the weld. Experimental tests have also being carried out on the replica of a real weld with the simulated transducers. The results show that irrespective of the transducer used, the Ogilvy mathematical model is the best approximation for the modelling of the orientation of the grains in the analysed weld.
