IDEKO achieves the BIKAIN Certificate and strengthens its leadership in the standardization of the Basque Language

IDEKO receives the highest level of recognition for its work in promoting the Basque language.

This achievement is the result of over 24 years of proactive commitment and efforts to promote the use of Euskera.

The Research Center IDEKO, member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), has been awarded the Gold BIKAIN Certificate for its efforts in the normalization, use, and management of Euskera. This recognition represents one of the highest official certifications granted by the Basque Government in the field of linguistic normalization.

On December 18th, representatives from IDEKO received the Gold BIKAIN Certificate during the official ceremony held at the Kursaal Palace in Donostia. The award was presented by Ibone Bengoetxea Otaolea, Deputy Minister and Minister of Culture and Language Policy, and Sonia Rodríguez Rodríguez, Director of Linguistic Research and Coordination of Culture and Language Policy.



During this year’s evaluation process, IDEKO achieved a score between 800 and 849 points, earning the highest level of certification.

This marks the second time IDEKO has participated in the evaluation process. In 2016, the Research center obtained the Silver BIKAIN Certificate. The results of this year’s evaluation highlight a significant improvement in the integration and promotion of Euskera in its daily operations. The evaluations, carried out in November,, followed the Basque Government's Standard Reference Framework (EME), highlights the use of Euskera as a central pillar for both workplace communication and service delivery.

Reinforcing the Commitment to Euskera

This achievement consolidates IDEKO’s long-standing commitment to Euskera and reaffirms its leadership in the Basque Country in promoting the language in the workplace. For over 24 years, the technology center has been implementing a linguistic normalization plan, aimed at fostering the use of Euskera across all organizational areas and reinforcing its presence in society. IDEKO also actively participates in initiatives supporting Euskera, such as Korrika, the Day of Euskera, and Euskaraldia.

The BIKAIN Certificate is an official recognition awarded by the Basque Government to businesses and organizations. It serves as a public and free tool to evaluate the presence and use of Euskera.

Evaluation teams visit the organizations' facilities to analyze a range of indicators, including corporate branding, customer relationship, internal communications, work tools, personnel management, and the overall organizational management system.

For IDEKO, the results demonstrate an outstanding level of integration and use of Euskera, which has enabled the Research center to obtain the highest-level certification.
